Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. At the age of five and moved to Oxfordshire and attended an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. When she was six years old, Emma realized she was going to become an actress and for many years she was a student at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied singing dancing and acting. In a school play and an Stagecoach Production, Emma took her role as lead actress at 10, and acted. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was first cast in 1999. Casting agents discovered Emma via her Oxford theatre teacher. After eight consistent auditions the producer David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast for the roles of the three lead characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first appearance in a film was as a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The film is 2001's top earning film, smashing records at the opening and the very first weekend. The film was praised by critics who praised the film, and especially the young performers. The Daily Telegraph in Britain and the Daily Telegraph in America, widely read, called her performance commendable. Emma won the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for the Feature Film. She was later nominated five times for her part in the film.
